Dr. (Mrs)Tapati Banerjee (Director)
Assumed the charge of Director National Atlas & Thematic Mapping Organisation with effect from 9th November 2016. Dr. Banerjee has a brilliant academic and professional record to her credit. She has acquired her Postgraduate degree in Geography in the year 1985 and doctoral degree in 2008 from University of Calcutta. She is qualified with NET of ASRB and SLET of UGC. She has also gained basic computer education. During her career she has been awarded with Vidyasagar College Centenary Scholarship in 1982 and Vidyasagar Centenary Medal in 1983 and National Scholarship in 1984-85. Her professional journey started in 1993 as scientist in Indian Council of Agricultural Research. She has joined in ICAR- National Bureau of Soil Survey and Landuse Planning, Kolkata in 1997 and has been there since assuming the charge of Director, NATMO. During her long tenure as scientist in ICAR she has shouldered several responsibilities in a very commendable way. Major responsibilities undertaken by Dr. Tapati Banerjee include:
- Large scale mapping of physiographic units, landforms, landuse and their correlation in spatial distribution of different soil types for block, watershed and farm level planning.
- State level Soil resource mapping in West Bengal, Bihar, Odisha, Jharkhand.
- Generation of thematic maps based on point and polygon data.
- Developing Decision support System using geospatial tools and generation of thematic maps.
- Identification and delineation of crop pest and diseases using satellite data and ancillary data, preparation of map and their spatial distribution analysis for recommendation of Integrated pest Management (IPM)
- Cartographic appraisal by combining scientific and aesthetic elements with specialized knowledge of compilation and design principles
In addition to these responsibilities Dr. Banerjee was Project Investigator for five research projects, Project Associate in twenty eight research projects including four externally funded projects.
She has in her credit 15 research papers published in international and national journals. In addition to these thirty eight research abstracts and popular articles sixteen technical reports, book, book chapter and atlas are also in her credit.
Dr. Tapati Banerjee has undergone several professional trainings which include: Remote Sensing on Agriculture Thematic Cartography, Information Technology in Agriculture, Management Training for Women Scientists, Advance course in Remote Sensing and GIS, e-Resources in Agriculture.
She has been a resource person in imparting training to State and Central Government officials, University teachers engaged in research activities in geography and allied subjects in the field of
- Remote Sensing and GIS Applications in Natural Resource Management.
- Application of Remote Sensing and GIS in Watershed Characterization, Resource Planning and Management.
- Application of Remote Sensing and GIS in Soil Resource Studies towards Land use Planning.
- Soil Survey Techniques, Soil Correlation, Classification, Mapping and Interpretation of Data towards Land Use Planning.
- Remote Sensing for Pest Management and many more.
She was the external examiner of Kalyani University and was the faculty member if LRM Courses of Bidhan Chandra Krishi Viswa Vidyalaya.
Dr. Tapati Banerjee is a life member in many academic/professional associations like Asian Agri History, INCA, ILEE, Soil Conservation, and ISSLUP.
Dr. T. Banerjee is the first woman Director of NATMO since its inception in 1956.
